Global Brands acquires majority stake in Sean John
Global Brands Group announced on Monday that it has acquired a majority stake in Sean John.
The company entered into a partnership with Sean John founder Sean “Diddy” Combs to expand the Sean John and Enyce brands internationally. The brands will be a part of Global Brands Group’s CAA-CBG Global Brand Management Group division alongside celebrity brands from Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria and Bob Marley. Combs will continue to hold a minority stake in Sean John, and Jeffrey Tweedy will remain as President.
Founded in 1998, Sean John is a full lifestyle brand offering men’s sportswear, tailoring, accessories, footwear and fragrances among others. In 2004, Combs received the CFDA Men’s Designer of the Year award for Sean John.
The lifestyle brand entered into a partnership agreement with Macy’s in 2010 to make Sean John available at 400 stores in the US. Sean John and Macy’s renewed their agreement in October 2015.
Global Brands Group recently posted a revenue increase despite a challenging global environment.
Bruce Rockowitz, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Global Brands Group, said: “We are embracing change, continuing to diversify our brands, leveraging our ability to be channel agnostic and gearing up our e-commerce capabilities. We will continue to focus on building our footprint across Europe and Asia, and increasing our market share across all our distribution channels.”
