Supreme’s next collab is with Jean-Paul Gaultier

Add Jean-Paul Gaultier to the list of design partners of Supreme, the New York skateboard and clothing brand that has become a fashion phenomenon. And the first ideas from Jean-Paul for the New York brand will be available next week.

Supreme broke the news on its Instagram account, showing a bearded youth in tartan fur (faux?) and matching graphic pants and top with a metal belt buckle reading 'Gaultier Supreme.'

“Supreme®/Jean Paul Gaultier®. Coming soon,” read the text with the photo, apparently shot by artist photographer Collier Schorr, in a post that has already garnered over 120,000 likes.

Asked about the link-up, a spokesperson for the French couturier in Paris confirmed that the designer would indeed be partnering with the Soho-based streetwear label.

“Gaultier Supreme will be a worldwide collaboration,” she explained.

The first looks will begin retailing on April 11 in all Supreme stores and on their website. Aided by Supreme’s well-known policy of releasing tight limited editions of partnership collections, expect a fashion feeding frenzy next week.

Known as the founding father of gender-bending fashion, Gaultier has dressed literally dozens of rock stars – from Madonna’s conical bras to Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman, Janelle Monàe and Kim Kardashian – and carved a unique chapter in fashion history.

Gaultier’s house closed down his ready-to-wear business in 2015, though he continues to show highly-acclaimed twice yearly haute couture collections on the Paris runway. Currently, his burlesque revue Fashion Freak Show is a huge hit at the Folies Bergère.

Supreme has a wide-ranging history of fashion collaborations that vary from Undercover and Levi’s to Thom Browne and Louis Vuitton. Now it’s the turn of the master of decadent chic.
