Published

A salutary less on the art of keeping things simple by Stella McCartney whose latest collection was all about looking hot while dressing in a very relaxed manner.

Forgiving volume, loose clothes and lots of jumpsuits made up the heart of the silhouette, in marked contrast to the setting: the baroque glory of the Palais Garnier.

From great big double-breasted blazers; cool one-sleeve tops and dresses in macramé cottons; and sexy mannish shirts cut with slant pocket and made into suggestive mini dresses.

But above all a fresh series of billowing mechanic jumpsuits – a garment which over the past few seasons McCartney has made her own.

A collection very much for a self-assured woman with plenty of bold prints – most memorably some great traditional African graphics which on closer inspection contained old fashioned microphones.

“Jumpsuits are effortless. For me having them n my wardrobe is very reassuring. I practically live in them. They are my uniform, though I don’t get too dressed up for work, which this is!” enthused McCartney, who took her bow in brown pants and a cashmere sweater.

“Very sexy comfort! Speaking as a woman I loved it,” enthused Kylie Minogue in the gilded backstage. Amid a huge scrum of fans and editor to congratulate her, Princess Charlotte of Monaco and Jerry Seinfeld.

The show also saw the latest series of great new sunglasses – bold ski-style wraparounds – courtesy of Kering Eyewear, the booming division of the luxury empire, which has built a quarter-billion-euro business almost overnight.
