Skechers USA, Inc. furthered its sustainability efforts with the announcement of two new initiatives on Tuesday. As well as unveiling Our Planet Matters, a new sustainable footwear collection for men, women and children, the American lifestyle company revealed that it has entered into a new multi-year partnership with environmental non-profit The Nature Conservancy.

The Our Planet Matters collection is manufactured using recycled materials, including cotton, polyester, rubber, EVA and TPU, and features durable, washable designs that aim to extend the products’ lifespan. The recycled contents of each product will be outlined on packaging and hangtags in order to promote transparency for consumers.

“As a global lifestyle brand, we have a wonderful opportunity to encourage consumers of every age to become more environmentally conscious in their daily lives. And Our Planet Matters is a natural step in that direction,” said Skechers president Michael Greenberg in a release. “These styles enable people of all ages to wear many of our popular designs in recycled materials—an easy, practical way to start helping our planet.”

In parallel, Skechers’ new partnership with The Nature Conservancy will see the company contribute a minimum of $800,000 to the organization, which works to conserve land and water in 75 countries and territories around the world.

The non-profit’s conservation projects include reforestation initiatives that align with Skechers’ ongoing commitment to reducing both tree harvesting and emissions through its use of environmentally friendly packaging materials. The company exclusively uses soy- and water-based ink and recyclable foot forms and tissue paper in its packaging and has achieved a 99% reduction in its use of plastic since 2016.

The two initiatives announced by Skechers on Tuesday tie in with its wider sustainability commitments. As well as its environmentally friendly packaging, the company’s other key achievements include using 30% and 48% solar energy in its two main corporate headquarters in Manhattan Beach, California.

In the third quarter ended September 20, 2021, Skechers reported revenues of $1.55 billion, representing growth of 19.2% compared to the same period in the previous year.
