It is “with deep emotion and immense sadness,” that luxury group Richemont chairman Johann Rupert announced the passing of former vice-president Jean-Paul Aeschimann on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

Aeschimann served as vice-president of Richemont for 22 years, from 1998 to 2010. Aeschimann was also chairman of the business’ audit committee and a member of its remuneration committee and its nominations committee.

“We should all be truly deeply grateful for Jean-Paul’s incommensurable contribution to the group’s success, as prior deputy chairman but also chairman of the audit committee and member of the remuneration and nominations committees,” said Rupert. “Today, I have also lost an esteemed friend. I will remember with the greatest fondness the incisiveness and humour he brought to our many discussions over the future of Richemont and much else besides.”

Richemont specialises in the luxury industry and owns the brands Cartier, Azzedine Alaïa, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Chloé. For the 2022 financial year, the business reported a turnover of €19.181 billion (up 44% year-on-year) and a net profit totalling €2 billion (up 61%).
