West coast menswear brand Matiere wiped out all of its photos on Instagram save for three videos of a model in a reflective hoodie and shorts. ‘Reflection’ is the story of the California-based label’s spring 2018 collection, in both a literal and non-literal sense.

The collection boasts reflective pieces such as hoodies, shorts, and anoraks crafted with Italian fabrics that have aluminum ingredients, and additional pieces include cropped trousers, Mandarin collar shirts, jeans, ¾ length sleeve shirts and parkas in sporty, casual fits and washed out navy, army, pink, natural and black colors.

The reflective pieces represent Matiere's reflection on eight seasons and a US Woolmark Prize nomination in 2016.

“In a time of reflection, both internally and externally, literally and metaphorically, we continue to examine the core ethos and foundation of the brand Matiere,” said the label.

“Exploring the merging of eco-friendly fabrics coupled with the use of metallic and reflective high-tech materials. Fusing the importance of reducing global impact, while understanding the need for protective, functional comfort. It is a time to embrace the technical future while continuing to be respectful of our origins.”

Founded by Scot Shandalove and Henry Choi in 2013, Matiere delivers understated yet refined menswear staples that integrate form, function and comfort. The brand produces its collection with luxury fabrics made in partnership with world-class mills such as the Wakayama Prefecture in Japan and the Italian Province of Como.

Matiere was formally introduced to New York’s fashion week schedule at New York Men’s Day, and the brand eventually joined the NYFW: Men’s schedule.

The menswear label on Wednesday debuted its spring 2018 collection with a choreographed dance performance that exhibited the collection’s function and movement. Shandalove said at the show that the dancers from the Alonzo King Lines ballet performs with Choi’s sister.

The duo has pondered for many seasons on how to incorporate the talented dancers in their fashion presentation and made it possible with the introspective spring 2018 collection.
