Lindsey Wixson’s modeling career took off when Steven Meisel selected the then 15-year-old to appear in Italian Vogue. Since then, the Wichita native has appeared in campaigns and runway shows for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu, Chanel and H&M.

Now the model known for her gap-toothed smile and pouty lips has announced her retirement from modeling. As she has documented on social media, Wixson has suffered from a tear in the tendon of her foot that prevents her from wearing high heels.

“To all my fashion fans, I am sad to inform you that my injury has put me in a position to retire from this high heel business. I have an artistic side that wants to shine through. I feel that this disablility has come to me with a purpose. To show me that I must carry on. This industry has brought me so much and I am grateful for the lessons I have learned. Now more than ever I feel it is important to listen to my body and the changing times of this industry and peacefully try to move on,” the model wrote on Instagram.

Wixson has already started a new Instagram page, wixsondesign, to showcase her pottery creations.
