Denim tradeshow Kingpins has announced that it has canceled its 2020 Kingpins China City Tour.

In a press release, the company said the denim supply chain trade show tour, originally set to take place in Guangzhou and Hangzhou on September 2 and 4, has been canceled in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and related travel restrictions.

“While some places in the world have begun to open and many of our mills and partners in China are slowly returning to a sense of normalcy, for many of our international exhibitors, travel is not an option right now,” said Vivian Wang, Kingpins’ managing director and head of global sales.

Although Kingpins made up for other recently cancelled shows with the launch of Kingpins24, an online denim event targeting the European and North American markets, the company said no similar digital event will be made to make up for the canceled China event.

“The Chinese market is very interesting to Kingpins and the global denim market, but we don’t have the technology or capacity to produce a digital event for China just yet,” Wang said.

“It is something we are exploring – not just for China, but for the whole world – and we hope to be able to share some good news in that respect soon.”

Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Kingpins announced in February that it would cancel its Hong Kong show, and canceled its Amsterdam show the following month.
