Luxury retailer Harvey Nichols has confirmed its commitment to its Dundrum Town Centre store in Dublin saying that the location will definitely reopen once the current Irish lockdown ends.

The store, which was an original Dundrum anchor location, hadn’t reopened after the earlier lockdown and has been closed since March 19.

It’s a strategy Harvey Nichols has followed with some of its other stores in the British Isles with not all of its UK locations reopening when they were allowed to in June.

The fact that the Dundrum shop also stayed closed had fuelled rumours about plans to possibly close it for good. Even though the company had earlier insisted it would reopen, the lack of a firm date for this undermined confidence. But it has been reported that the company was originally looking at an early November reopening, although that was delayed by the imposition of a Level 5 lockdown in the Republic of Ireland during October.

It’s now expected to open its doors again in early December, although that leaves it little time to take advantage of festive shopping, It also means its overall takings for 2020 will be heavily down on 2019 as it has lost around three-quarters of its trading year.

Dundrum has also announced that when it reopens, the Monsoon Accessorize store will reopen too with the centre’s director, Don Nugent saying the mall will be back to 100% occupancy.
