H&M announces animal welfare collaboration, date for first store opening in India

Swedish fast-fashion giant H&M has teamed up with animal welfare organization Humane Society International to help improve animal welfare in its supply chain, and in the industry in general.

H&M's aim is to "improve animal welfare in the fashion and beauty industry on a more holistic and strategic term."

“It is always exciting to partner with a company that shares our passion for animal protection. Working with H&M to end cosmetics animal testing, and improve the lives of animals on farms, will set a high standard for others to follow. It will show that it not only makes good ethical sense to treat animals with kindness and compassion, but it makes good business sense too,” says HSI’s CEO Andrew Rowan.

H&M has also revealed the opening date for its first-ever India store, as reported in FashionMag earlier this summer. The store will be located in the SelectCityWalk shopping centre in New Delhi and will open on October 2, a national holiday in India celebrating Gandhi Jayanti to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

The company said in a statement that it plans to organise musical events will offer its limited edition H&M India tote bag to the first 1,000 customers in queue. Plus, the first three shoppers in the queue on opening day will receive gift cards of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,500 respectively
