The French Haute couture and Fashion Federation (FHCM) has boosted its resources for the promotion of emerging designers, setting up a committee of experts to support their international development. The committee is coordinated by Serge Carreira and is made up of four prominent industry figures, from different countries and with a varied outlook: Julie Gilhart, Jenke-Ahmed Tailly, Herbert Hoffmann and Wendy Yu.

The first of these four very special ambassadors, Julie Gilhart, needs little introduction. The renowned US consultant, an expert in the fashion and retail sectors, has recently joined, with her consulting agency, Tomorrow Consulting, a branch of Tomorrow London Holdings.

Senegalese-Ivorian designer Jenke-Ahmed Tailly, a New York-based creative director and consultant, is well known for his efforts to promote diversity, and for having dressed Beyoncé and Iman Bowie. He has also worked for, among others, Kanye West.

Herbert Hoffmann is a creative director and fashion buyer. After eight years in charge of purchasing at Berlin boutique Voo Store, he moved to Highsnobiety, a paper and online magazine, creative agency and e-tail site based in Berlin.

Chinese billionaire Wendy Yu is the fourth member of the team. An investor and philanthropist, in 2015 she founded a venture capital firm, Yu Holdings, notably acquiring a minority stake in the Mary Katrantzou label.

On that occasion, Yu met Carreira, who led Mary Katrantzou until June 2019, and was appointed last September to the newly created post of director of emerging labels initiatives at FHCM.

As the Federation announced in a press release, the four committee members have become “ambassadors” of FHCM. As part of the committee, they will help identify international opportunities for the young designers mentored by FHCM, while also acting as an “interface with international labels.”
