Emmy Awards 2021: Glamour meets color in a vibrant red carpet cocktail

After the all-out extravagance of the MTV Video Music Awards and the Met Gala, make way for the glamour of the Emmy Awards, with a return to floaty dresses, rhinestones and barely-there sheers. Still, there was no question of opting for the classic black and white shades -- too banal, too bland even, for a time when the mood tends to be more spontaneous, free, optimistic and enthusiastic than ever. Indeed, yellow, red and blue were all over the red carpet at the Event Deck at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.

The red carpet turned out to be a rainbow affair at the 73rd Emmy Awards ceremony, held September 19 in Los Angeles. Guests embraced color -- and not in pastel hues, but in vibrant shades, bursting with energy and life, perhaps signalling a need to celebrate loud and clear this (almost) return to normal, embracing life's sunnier shades of pink, yellow and turquoise blue after such a long and trying period.

Yellow was particularly present on the red carpet, worn by Kaley Cuoco -- who shone in a Vera Wang dress complete with train and flower straps -- as well as Michaela Coel in a bandeau and draped skirt by Christopher John Rogers, not to mention Anya Taylor-Joy, who stepped out in a Dior gown.

Red -- a symbol of passion, pleasure and power -- lit up the ceremony, matching the event's star-studded carpet to a tee. Mandy Moore and Sarah Paulson both stepped out in Carolina Herrera gowns -- with a pleated column dress for one, and a gathered dress for the other -- while Tracee Ellis Ross chose a straight Maison Valentino dress with a more fluid cut, and embroidered with mini-pearls.

Another color that electrified the Emmy Awards red carpet was blue. This was the shade of choice for MJ Rodriguez, who dazzled in an Atelier Versace draped dress, as well as Dan Levy, who wore a head-to-toe blue look by Valentino. Note too, the floaty and intensely purple Christian Siriano dress worn by Nicole Byer, and the yellow and purple shades of the Christian Siriano outfit worn by Carl Clemons-Hopkins.
