This month sees the launch of a collaboration between Cheap Monday, the Swedish denim brand, and Faustine Steinmetz, the London-based designer who uses innovative and unique techniques for her reworked denim.

The collaboration came about because Cheap Monday’s Head Denim Designer Carl Malmgren was impressed by Faustine’s methods of re-working classic, denim archetypes into something new and totally unique. And Steinmetz already had a history with the brand: "I think the fact that both labels are crazy about denim really was the biggest attraction, and for me it was definitely motivated by the fact that I grew up with Cheap Monday. I would be dressed head to toe in Cheap Monday as a teenager so this collaboration means a lot to me", the designer explains.

The influence for the collection came from Steinmetz' interest in the Norwegian Black Metal scene of the 90’s, and it consists of eight handmade pieces. The capsule line contains a full offering of unisex jackets, jeans, tees and a backpack, and focuses on two main concepts – merino wool felting and fabric pulling.

A monochrome colour palette underlines the collection's emphasis on different fabrics, techniques and textures. It includes a pulled weave jacket as well as hand-felted jeans.

Faustine Steinmetz is one of the designers to get presentation sponsorship from the British Fashion Council for autumn/winter 2016.
