According to Bloomberg, the pioneer in subscription beauty kits, Birchbox, has released 15% of its employees and suspended its operations in Canada. Bloomberg stated that the job cuts involve 45 of the US company's 300 employees.

Katia Beauchamp, co-founder and CEO of Birchbox, explained that this highly distressing decision will allow the company to reinvest in bigger projects and accelerate its growth. "Birchbox's vision was always that of building a self-sufficient company, and the market requires that we achieve profitability from the current year (...)," underlined Katia Beauchamp.

In the last few years, Birchbox multiplied its investments. Besides the beauty kits and the e-shop, in 2014 the beauty specialist opened its first physical store in SoHo, New York. More recently, Birchbox launched two own brands, Arrow and LOC (Love of Color).

Birchbox was founded in 2010 by Katia Beauchamp and Hayley Barna, and in 2012 it acquired its French homologue, Joliebox.
