Aéropostale to reopen 500 stores in the US

Aéropostale is back in business.

After filing for bankruptcy in May and getting acquired by Authentic Brands Group, Simon Property Group, and General Growth Properties in September, the teen retailer this week will reopen its 500 stores in the US.

The stores will offer the new Aéropostale spring 2017 collection, and the retailer will support the collection launch and store openings with a marketing campaign that will launch in February. The campaign will reveal Aéropostale’s transformation and highlight the retailer’s new branding that represents what customers enjoy most.

"We are excited to reopen more than 500 doors across the US," said Marc Miller, CEO of Aéropostale. "Our store associates are thrilled for the new Aéropostale and look forward to welcoming new and returning customers into the store."

Aéropostale filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in spring 2016, succumbing to years of losses due to fierce competition. Versa Capital considered acquiring the retailer and Sycamore Partners bid on the retailer as well, but a consortium comprised of Authentic Brands Group, Simon Property Group, and General Growth Properties won the bid to acquire the retailer for $243.3 million.

Aéropostale said in September following the acquisition that the consortium would operate at least 229 US stores, e-commerce and the international licensing business.
