Spain’s Balenciaga Museum will create a space in its store to showcase products from local designers and brands. The products will be displayed for sale at the museum store from July to December.

The museum has created a contest to choose up to six proposals. According to the museum’s director, Miren Vives, the designs do not have to be created specifically for this project.

For the time being, the idea is being presented as a pilot product, but it could later be expanded into a more permanent fixture.

The proposals can include any products related to fashion design, such as scarves, bags, jewelry, hats, belts, shoes or apparel, as long as their display can be adapted to the available space.

“This space was conceived as a ‘showroom’ for the lines of work from creators whose proposals are selected,” indicated Vives.

The museum, which is located in the town of Getaria in the Basque region, has posted the contest rules on its website. It will be accepting proposals until June 11.

The Balenciaga Museum and the sister company which runs the museum store will oversee the selection.

This initiative will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the opening of Cristóbal Balenciaga’s first store in San Sebastián, with the goal of “bringing visibility to the talents of local artists, artisans, brands and designers.”
