Burberry has strengthened its board with the appointment of an experienced strategist, Orna NiChionna, as a new non-executive director.

She will replace US-based non-executive director Fabiola Arredondo as chair of the brand’s remuneration committee from 6 February. Arredondo has decided to step down as chair to focus on her substantial US commitments.

This is not the first time NiChionna is tasked with leading a remuneration committee. She is currently chair of the remuneration committee at Saga plc and Royal Mail plc, where she also serves as senior independent director.

She is also deputy chairman at the National Trust and chair of client service at Eden McCallum. Her CV also includes almost two decades with management consultancy firm McKinsey & Company, where she co-led their prestigious European retail practice.

Burberry chairman sir John Peace said: "We are delighted to welcome Orna to the board. In addition to the experience she brings on remuneration matters, her strong UK plc and business experience will be a great asset to Burberry as we continue to focus on delivering long-term shareholder value.”

Peace also thanked Fabiola Arredondo for chairing the remuneration committee “through a period of significant change”. She will remain on the committee to assist in the leadership transition.
