Through the collection, Original Penguin is looking to build on its youth culture appeal and pay homage to its rich history by articulating Goldschmied’s denim expertise to update its classic product line.

Chief Executive Officer and President of Perry Ellis International Oscar Feldenkreis stated in a release, "With the resurgence of denim as a trend, our timely partnership with Adriano Goldschmied is truly exciting.  This collaboration will invigorate the brand with the combination of our enduring style with Adriano's innovation, unique washes and imaginative designs,” adding  “We anticipate a collection that is perfect for the brand's style-savvy consumer that appreciates its heritage."

Adriano Goldschmied, an Italian-born designer based in LA since 1999, is credited with originating the concept of “Premium denim” and is also known as “the Godfather of denim”. He founded the LA-based design think tank Genious Group in 1980.

The collaboration is the second Original Penguin collection to be announced this week, as Perry Ellis revealed on Monday that it had signed a licensing deal with Cia. Mexicana de Trajes. The deal allows the Mexican manufacturer to design and sell a collection under the Original Penguin brand in Mexico, starting with a collection to be released this Fall.

Original Penguin is a heritage premium menswear brand which aims to combine classic American sportswear and contemporary fashion.

It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Perry Ellis International, Inc. which holds a varied portfolio of men’s and women’s apparel and accessories brands including Laundry by Shelli Segal, Rafaella and Ben Hogan. The company also holds third-party licenses with a number of sportswear brands including Nike, PGA Tour and Jack Nicklaus.

The Original Penguin x Adriano Goldschmied collaboration is slated to launch in Fall 2018 and will be available in premium department stores, as well as through the Original Penguin website and company stores.
