At the next Baselworld -- a watch and jewelry trade show to be held in Basel, Switzerland from March 17 to 24, 2016 -- the Swiss watchmaker Mido will unveil a timepiece inspired by Britain's famous Tower of London and dreamed up by the watch designer Sébastien Perret. The watch will then hit the shelves as a limited edition in the second quarter of 2016.

The Mido Watch Design Contest, which was launched in March, had a very happy winner in Sébastien Perret, who was chosen by a panel of professional judges and the public. The designer created the watch which best represented the imposing silhouette of Westminster's clock tower.

While the design of this timepiece seems simple at first, a closer look reveals an array of details which are successively revealed in layers, from the inner workings to the watch face.

For the moment, we only know what this new Mido looks like, but it could be a self-winding mechanical watch. It will have hour, minute and second displays, and a date window at three o'clock.

Architecture is a Mido tradition

This is not the first time that Mido has been inspired by an architectural monument. In fact it has become a tradition at the company, as the inspiration for the watches in the "Great Wall" collection is the Great Wall of China, for the "Multifort" line it is the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and for the "All Dial" collection it is the Colosseum in Rome.

This latest Mido inspired by Big Ben will be officially unveiled at the next Baselworld, in March next year, then will go on sale as a limited edition of 500 units.
