BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Bekaert BERTt.BR, a steel cord and wire maker, will close its carding business in Cleckheaton, which now employs 57 people, it said on Wednesday.

The company said that given a structural shift in production "and the total disappearance of market demand" for the products Claekheaton makes, the company said it plans to move the facility's functions to other plants.

Carding is one of the first steps in textile production, during which cotton fibres are readied for spinning.
