Denim icon Adriano Goldschmied's Genius Group has partnered with Tencel manufacturer Lenzing AG to design and produce a modern denim collection using a new sustainable cellulose fiber called Refibra.

Lenzing AG

Refibra is a chemically recycled synthetic derived from post-industrial cotton scraps and wood pulp. Lenzing AG calls Refibra "the new generation of Tencel". It is Recycled Claim Standard-certified and fully traceable.

To help introduce the new material, Lenzing asked premium denim pioneer Goldschmied to create a denim capsule collection. Goldschmied's Genius Group sourced denim scraps and materials from global mills in Spain, Italy, Turkey, Pakistan and China.

The collection was ultimately designed, produced and finished in LA. The capsule collection contains 15 women's and men's denim styles.

Goldschmied said in a statement released by Lenzing, "Tencel fibers have been an important part of my work and the innovation that I bring into design." The denim visionary said that Refibra is a sustainable evolution of Tencel that he hopes will "open the minds of designers with sustainable innovations."

Tricia Carey, Lenzing's director of global business development for denim said the capsule collection represents the industry's commitment to sustainable production. Refibra is another step towards zero waste and exemplifies the "reduce, reuse and recycle" sustainability ideology.

Carey commented that Goldschmied "has long been an advocate for product development in the denim industry with less impact on the environment without compromising consumer demand for comfort and fashion."

Carey optimistically called the collaboration a "new sustainable innovation into the denim market.” The Goldschmied Genius Group capsule collection debuted at Kingpins Amsterdam and will go on display at Lenzing's regional offices.
